Advanced Practitioner
Surgical ICU – Bliss 7 ICU/Step-down
Full Time: 40 hours
Weekend/Off Shift/Holiday rotation required. (Premium differentials offered.)
Will consider candidates for permanent nights.

Hartford Hospital’s Neurosurgery Critical Care Unit (B7I) is a 12 patient bed Surgical ICU and 3 Bed Stepdown Unit that cares for multiple surgical patient populations including: general surgery, trauma, vascular, thoracic, liver transplants and other critical care patients as service needs dictate. These patients may require multiple technologies or advanced life support including: hemodynamic monitoring, Mechanical ventilation, Continuous veno-venous hemofiltration (CVVH), Nitric Oxide (NO), and multiple vasoactive drug therapies. The AP provider responsibilities include several invasive bedside procedures, for which training will be provided during orientation for candidates that do not have this skill set.

The neurosurgical CCU – B7I team is committed to creating an innovative patient centered delivery system that continuously improves quality care. The Advanced Practice providers are part of a multidisciplinary team that plans and delivers care for this complex population under the direction of the attending intensivist, in collaboration with the surgeons / attending physicians of the primary teams, Critical Care Fellows, and other consultants.
Nurse Practitioners (APRN) / Physician Assistants provide direct clinical management of the critically ill surgical and other critical care patients across the service continuum (ICU/SDU). Collaborative model of care with Attending physician, Intensivist, Critical Care Fellow and other members of HCT. Includes coverage of other surgical critical care units as service needs dictate.

Advanced Practitioner Requirements:

Nurse Practitioners (APRN) positions require National certification in Advanced Practice, MSN, and current CT Nurse Practitioner (APRN) License or eligible required. Physician Assistants (PA) positions require current CT Physician Assistants (PA) License and Board certification or eligible, Federal DEA, and CT Controlled Substance Registration. All disciplines require the demonstrated ability to positively interact with medical and nursing staff. Critical Care experience in Neurosurgery / Surgical ICU.  AGACNP board certification and/or critical care AP experience.
